The Cambria County area is rich in tradition and has developed a work force that is known for its high precision, dependability, strong work ethic and strength. Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, coal mining and iron & steel production had been the Keystone of Cambria County's Economic Base. However, like most of the Northeast, as well as much of the United States, the manufacturing base is being replaced by service and service-related and high tech business. The city of Johnstown is the largest and probably the most well known community in the country. Devastated by three major floods in 1889, 1936 and 1977, Johnstown, as well as Cambria County has become a legend, 'the hard way'. But, by rebounding time and time again, the area has rebuilt and created an even brighter future for the area residents and its business and industry.
